Weight Verification for Sea Containers SOLAS/VGM
According to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regulation
Since July 1, 2016, the verified gross mass (VGM) of every sea container — which includes the gross weight of the cargo, the weight of any packing materials, and the tare weight (empty weight) of the container — must be communicated to the shipping line before the container is loaded onto the vessel. The shipper is responsible for verifying the gross mass and forwarding this information via their freight forwarder to the shipping line.
